Sunday 22 May – the Motul MX Nationals headed to the South Australia Murray Bridge track, a scene of many victories in the past for Pirelli riders.
Press Release
This track marks the beginning of the sandier conditions encountered by MX Nationals racers at this time of the season, with the following round heading to Wanneroo in Western Australia also a sand track. Murray Bridge though presents its own challenges, with a soft, sandy and often deeply ripped track presenting softer conditions in the morning which can change in certain parts of the track to harder conditions as the day wears on, while still maintaining soft sandy sections of the track throughout the day. For riders this makes tyre choice challenging and critical to the eventual race results.
In the MX 1 class this saw Todd Waters with his increased MX GP experience choose Scorpion MX 32 front and Scorpion MX Soft 410 rear combination for race 1. This proved to be the right choice to match his Suzuki, with the Queensland rider taking the Moto 1 win. Interestingly a rejuvenated Kade Mosig (National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki) chose to race with Scorpion MX32 front and rear for the same race, and finished in 2nd place, again showing the versatility of the Scorpion MX 32 tyre across mixed conditions. For race 2 and a hardening track in some areas, Waters chose to switch to the Scorpion MX32 rear, for 3rd in moto 2, and achieved the Overall MX 1 round win with this result. This is the first round win for the Wilson Cool Air Motul Suzuki Team in the MX Nationals, and shows the winning combination of rider, bike and tyre. In the MX1 class, Pirelli riders filled 6 of the top 10 places across Factory and Privateer riders.
In the MX2 class Pirelli riders also featured, with privateer Husqvarna rider Nathan Crawford finishing 2nd overall for the round and using Scorpion MX32 80/100-21 and Scorpion MX32 110/90-19 rear on his 250 four stroke Husqvarna. Jake Moss (National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki) also showed the pace of this tyre combination, finishing on the podium in 3rd place in MX2 Moto 2. Pirelli riders also filled 6 of the top 10 positions in this class.

Todd really showed his experience and skill today, thinking about the conditions and best choice of tyre for them in each race. We congratulate the Wilson Cool Air Motul Suzuki Team on their inaugural round win. We know Todd and the team have been working very hard to achieve this result. We also saw both National Pump Energy Monster Energy Kawasaki riders with strong performances, and some encouraging improvement from the Crankt Honda Racing Team as well. We look forward to the challenge of the Wanneroo sand with a new rear size in Scorpion MX Soft 410 for the MX1 riders, and thank all riders for their efforts and results at Murray Bridge. “
