The things you need to know ahead of Supercross round five.
By Hayden Gregory
In 2015 Eli Tomac won the 450 class ahead of Ken Roczen and Ryan Dungey. Will form repeat itself or will the tides turn as Dungey stares down the barrel of four straight supercross victories. The KTM rider claimed his first premier class victory at the course way back in 2010 before going on to win again in 2012.
In the past six seasons three riders have claimed their debut 450 victory at Phoenix. Who will step up to the challenge come Saturday? Will Musquin go one better than Oakland? Interestingly enough the course has had 14 different winners spanning 22 seasons with five different winners in the last five years!
As we shift our focus to the 250 class the 2015 podium reads Cooper Webb, Malcolm Stewart and Jessy Nelson. This was a very significant result for our main man Webb as it marked his first career victory in a race that kick-started a serious run winning eight of the following ten races.
After last week’s mechanical issue Webb will look to join Nathan Ramsey, James Stewart and Jake Weimer as the only riders to win multiple races in Phoenix. This will be a tough task considering over 22 seasons there has been 19 different winners.
With no Malcom Stewart form 250 riders Christian Craig and Joey Savatgy will no doubt be trying to create their own records adding their name to the Phoenix all time winners list.
As we approach the weekend we can predict all we want, we can read the statistics and give you the numbers but at the end of the day this is racing and anything can happen!
