Ducati is set to make waves in the world of motocross and Supercross, teaming up with Troy Lee Designs to showcase the revolutionary Desmo450 MX on US soil. This landmark collaboration marks Ducati’s first foray into AMA Supercross, setting the stage for the Desmo450 MX’s arrival in American racing.
The partnership was officially unveiled at the opening round of the 2025 AMA Supercross season, hosted at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. With Tony Cairoli, Ducati Brand Ambassador, and Paolo Ciabatti, Ducati Corse Off-Road General Manager, in attendance, alongside key representatives from Ducati North America, the announcement was met with excitement from fans and industry insiders alike. A prototype Desmo450 MX, sporting custom graphics by the legendary Troy Lee, was displayed in the paddock, offering an exciting preview of what’s to come.
“Partnering with Ducati, a globally recognised leader in motorcycling, is an incredible milestone for us,” said Troy Lee, founder of Troy Lee Designs. “Racing is the heart of our brand, and this collaboration allows us to push boundaries in performance and safety. We’re thrilled to make history together.”
The Desmo450 MX’s presence will extend beyond Anaheim, appearing at seven additional rounds of the 2025 AMA Supercross Championship. Ducati enthusiasts will also have the rare opportunity to witness the Desmo450’s cutting-edge desmodromic timing system up close, with a sectioned engine on display in the paddock.
Adding to the excitement, the Desmo450 MX will take centre stage at Ducati Island during the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, on 30 March. The much-anticipated motocross machine will be available to riders at select European dealerships starting in June 2025.
What Sets the Ducati Desmo450 MX Apart?
The Desmo450 MX is unlike any motocross bike on the market. Equipped with desmodromic valve timing—a hallmark of Ducati’s MotoGP and WorldSBK machines—it delivers higher revs than traditional spring-loaded systems, enhancing performance at critical moments like race starts.
Further elevating its appeal, the Desmo450 MX features advanced electronics derived from Ducati’s MotoGP expertise, a first in off-road racing. Its lightweight design ensures unparalleled handling, making it as formidable for professional riders as it is accessible for enthusiasts eager to push their limits.
Ducati’s entry into AMA Supercross with the Desmo450 MX represents a bold new chapter for the brand, bringing Italian engineering excellence to the heart of American motocross.
