Motorcycling Australia today announced Aussie motocross heavyweights Brett Metcalfe, Dean Ferris and Todd Waters will represent Australia at the 2013 Motocross of Nations in Teutschenthal, Germany on 29 September.
Team Manager, Gary Benn said selection was extremely difficult this year but believes Australia will be well represented by Metcalfe, Ferris and Waters.
“These guys are in amazing form at the moment and were a natural pick to represent the Aussies on the motocross world stage.” Benn said.
Australia’s most successful motocross rider, Chad Reed unfortunately had to withdraw his application at the last minute.
“Of course we’re disappointed Chad withdrew his nomination, he is, without a doubt an outstanding rider and Aussie legend, having represented the country at the MXoN many times in previous years.” Benn said.
2013 Motorcross of Nations riders:
MX1: Brett Metcalfe
Motocross warrior and Kawasaki rider Brett Metcalfe proved recently just how in form he is by taking out the 2013 Canadian Motocross Championship this month.
MX2: Dean Ferris
Last weekend, the Ferris wheel rolled into a sleepy Belgium town and showed the world that Australia is the breeding ground for motocross champions, taking the top step for his team, Monster Energy Yamaha in the MX2 World Championships.
MX3: Todd Waters
Waters is in scintillating form this year and currently sitting in second place in the Australian 2013 Monster Energy MX National Championships.
Often referred to as the Olympics of Motocross, the Motocross of Nations is the pinnacle of motocross events in the world calendar pitting nations against each other to battle it out for the title. In 2012, it was Germany who reigned supreme, followed by Belgium and the USA. Team Australia rounded out the top 10.
