We had a mixed week of epic adventures. Travelling down Hwy 1 on the California coastline was insane. An adventure that was not quite so good was when the RV we hired broke down leaving us stuck roadside for about 6hrs! Back up and running we made it to Murrieta where we based ourselves at Race SoCal leading into the second round. During the week we managed to squeeze in some off bike training and a day of riding.
Race 1
After feeling a little uncomfortable on press day, we made a few minor adjustments to the bike prior to race day. I qualified 13th position and was really enjoying the feeling of the bike. Still quite a few seconds off the top guys, I was happy with how I was riding. The track was fast and smooth, with limited line options. Unfortunately, in Race 1 I was taken down on lap 1 by Hill. I put the hammer down and pushed from 35th to 16th. I was disappointed with this result as I felt my speed was better than this.
Race 2
The track started to deteriorate which suited my riding style and I was able to capitalise on my fitness & stamina towards the end of the moto. After crossing the finish line at the end of lap 1 in 17th position I charged through to pass some top level riders and couldn’t quite get close enough to Barcia to finish behind him in 11th. 16 – 11 for 13th overall.
It’s not the result that I’m wanting, however, I feel like my riding & pace is progressing. I also feel really comfortable with my bike setup and can’t thank Husqvarna USA and my other partners enough for making this possible.
Next stop…
Today we will commence the 1000 mile journey from Murrieta, CA to Lakewood, CO for Round 3 and my final AMA race for this season. I can’t wait to race again, it’ll be fun to try and master a new track and hopefully get my FC450 revving in the high altitude.
A huge thanks to all the Aussie crew that came out to Fox Raceway this weekend to show their support. I hope I gave you guys a good show!
