In front of a sell-out crowd of 71,009 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Saturday night for round eight of the 2012 AMA Supercross, Kyle Chisholm ran another consistent race for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team finishing 11th in the SX Main.
Cody Mackie unfortunately missed the SX Main for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team after finishing 19th in his Heat race and fourth in the SX Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ).
Leading up to the SX Main, Chisholm finished eighth quickest in his SX Group A first qualifying practice with a lap time of 53.949. Mackie, who was in SX Group A as well, finished his first qualifying practice 18th quickest with a lap time of 55.736. Both riders went on to pick up speed in their final SX Group A qualifying practices with Chisholm finishing seventh fastest with a lap time of 52.688 and Mackie finishing 19th fastest with a lap time of 54.828.
Those times put Chisholm seventh fastest overall in SX Heat 2 with the fourth gate pick and Mackie 24th fastest overall in SX Heat 1 with the 12th gate pick. Chisholm put together another consistent Heat race finishing eighth advancing to the SX Main, giving the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team their only entry of the evening. Mackie took an unfortunate spill on lap 5 running 11th in his Heat race and did not return to finish the Heat. This resulted in a 19th place finish putting him in the SX LCQ where he needed to finish first or second to advance to the SX Main.
Chisholm’s 11th place finish in the SX Main keeps him 12th in series points with 77, thirteen points outside of the top-10. Up next for the DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team is St. Louis for round nine on Saturday, March 3rd. Josh Grant will sit out St. Louis due to his injury and then look to be back on his bike for Daytona.
