Eli Tomac has made a statement declaring he will not take part in this year’s Motocross of Nations set to be held in Maggiora, Italy on September 25. Tomac has represented his country twice previously at the event and says it was not an easy decision to make.
“This was not an easy decision to make,” he said. “I have raced the Motocross of Nations twice now and it has always been an honour to be chosen for this prestigious event. This year, due to the race schedule being so full and the commitments I have made for the month of September, the team and I will not have the time and preparation needed to compete in a race as big as the Motocross of Nations.”
Tomac currently sits second in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and contractual obligations will see him contest both US Grand Prix’s in Charlotte and Glen Helen. The strenuous workload will see him miss this year’s event however he hasn’t ruled out a return to the team in years to come.
“Hopefully, I’ll have a chance to represent the U.S. again in the future. I wish Team USA 2016 the best as they compete against the world in Italy and look forward to seeing us back on top of the box where we belong,” he finished.
The official American team is expected to be announced this weekend at Unadilla.
