The DPH Motorsport Yamaha rider currently sits second place in the MX2 championship, seven points adrift of leader Nathan Crawford. Most recently winning round seven of the series, Beaton is confident he can continue to reach the box and is putting in the training time to match.

“I’m feeling really good ahead of this weekend. After Conondale I stayed in Queensland for a week and did some racing, and then came back home and have had more time on the bike this week, so we’ve had good preparation ahead of round eight,” Beaton shared.

As always my brother Ross and I have been working really hard, and at the moment we’re just trying to do everything we can to close in on the championship and put ourselves in the best position possible before Toowoomba and Coolum.”

Beaton is anticipating a rain affected track this weekend, something he hopes may play into his favour.

“I’ve heard it’s meant to be a wet track at Shepparton, which is fine by me, (laughs). I’ve had some of my best rounds this year in wet conditions, so honestly whatever happens with the weather I’ll be happy to go racing.

“At the moment I’m just trying to do my best every weekend. If I’m racing my best every round, then the rest will follow and we’ll be in a good position in the championship.”

Following the Australian motocross season, Beaton will head over to Switzerland to check out the MXGP scene. Jed will take the opportunity to explore an interest in the world championship, an event he one day aspires to race in.

Straight after Shepparton, I’m packing up and heading over to Switzerland before Toowoomba and Coolum to check everything out at the MXGP,” Beaton shared.

“I would love to race in Europe full time in the future, so I’m sort of grabbing this opportunity to head over while it’s there. As most people know, trips like this don’t come up very often and it really wouldn’t have been possible at all if it wasn’t for Josh Coppins.

“At this stage it’s not 100 per cent confirmed whether or not I’ll be racing in Switzerland at the MXGP, so we’ll just wait and see – but regardless, it’s going to be a great experience, and one that I’m hoping will open doors for me in the future.”

Beaton will once again look to reduce Crawford’s’ MX2 lead this weekend as round eight take place in Shepparton, Victoria on Sunday July 31.
