I have just completed the haul up to Newcastle thrown the handbrake on and pinned it back to work after a visit to Jay Foreman’s workshop to drop off "my" bike. The Project Suzuki RM144, at the moment, is still in its 125cc clothes, however, it now sits idle at Jay's waiting to be stripped down and built into the weapon that will be, the Dirt Action Project Suzuki RM144. I have a V-Force Reed Block ready to go in, a Bud Racing exhaust on the way, my cylinder is going to have some work done by Electrosil and a Wiseco Piston will be slotted in to finish the project.
So far, the bike has been a blast to ride. I have done plenty of riding on it in the last few weeks, and sent her for her first cartwheel down the track in what was a spectacular test of the Easton handlebars strength - let me tell you they are strong! The more riding I do on this bike, the more fun I am having, it's a blast! Although it is certainly teaching me to not be lazy, you can’t rest, ever. I had become so accustom to riding four-strokes, that the ease of a third gear inside line around a skatey flat turn was just to be expected to be possible on the 125 - not the case. Last weekend I headed out to Appin with a mate of mine, Grant, who is a pretty similar pace to me. I couldn’t believe how much easier he could do it on his four-stroke! Just riding a 125 fast takes so much more effort, and much more thinking on the bike than a new age four-strokes - I love it! It's harder to ride in a way, but the more laps I have done, the easier it is getting, and the more I wanna ride the thing out of fuel.
With a few more horses under the hood and a sweet suspension set-up when it returns from Jay's, a new ban on Maccas food being consumed and being dragged to the pool to train with Ben and Boothy to shed some kilos, the RM should be able to drag me into some decent results in the coming months.
